<image:caption>In January 2015, Cowart and Shikany began working on a film about UAB football as students in Michele Forman’s Ethnographic Filmmaking class in the UAB Media Studies program in the Department of History. That initial documentary was called “4th Down” and examined the issues around the cancelation of the football program at UAB in late 2014. The film was distributed widely through the university, alumni and surrounding communities, and as a result of the attention it was getting, as well as the growing interest in reviving the football program, Cowart and Shikany decided to produce a feature-length documentary called “4th and Goal.” It was that project that led the pair to Richard Brooke, a producer with Raycom Sports.</image:caption>

It was a crime that shocked the nation--and a defining moment in the history of the civil-rights movement. Spike Lee re-examines the full story of the bombing, including a revealing interview with former Alabama Governor George Wallace.” —HBO Nominated for an Academy Award.</image:caption>

<image:title>Film - Southern Exposure - Southern Exposure SOUTHERN EXPOSURE is a film fellowship program that is actively raising awareness about Alabama’s incredible natural resources and important environmental issues that impact all of us. This innovative summer fellowship brings emerging filmmakers from across the country to tell authentic, engaging stories through short documentary films about Alabama’s environment — and the people who cherish it — from the mountains to the coast. As a result of these poignant stories depicting the triumphs and challenges facing the state, numerous films from past fellowship years have been selected for screening in juried film festivals around the country! Live screenings and online distribution of the films continue to reach a variety of audiences, in Alabama and across the nation, helping Southern Exposure fulfill the mission to spread awareness, appreciation and inspire action on behalf of Alabama’s environment.</image:title>

<image:caption>Alabama Bound explores the legal roller-coaster ride of LGBTQ family rights in the South over the last decade. The film offers an intimate view into the lives of three lesbian families in Alabama as they set precedents and fight the courts for their children during the time that federal marriage equality comes to a head. This is the story of a powerful community living with both frustration and hope in a conservative state, where the line between church and state is often blurred.</image:caption>
